What is the problem?
Mount Si High School and the Snoqualmie Valley School
District have recently had their reputation damaged and have
been in the national news due to the actions of a small number
of teachers. Teacher misbehavior at the Martin Luther
King Day assembly resulted in disciplinary action against two
teachers. What many people don't know is that the MLK Day
assembly is only one in a series of problems with teachers
pushing their personal political opinions onto students in their
classrooms and libraries, in violation of
school district policy.
This biased few have also tried to push their personal agenda
onto other school district employees.
The actions of a few individuals have unfairly damaged the
reputation of everyone in the district, including the many teachers
and staff who devote themselves to upholding professional standards and
providing an excellent education to their students.
Over the last few years, parents have expressed their frustrations to
school and district administrators over a variety of related issues, but
felt that their concerns fell on deaf ears. The Coalition to
Defend Education (CoDE) was formed to give a united voice to those
parents and community members who want a learning environment for our
children that is safe and free of bias.
What do supporters of CoDE have to say about problems with bias in
our schools?
