Concerns of Students

How do students who support the Coalition answer the question:
"What is your greatest concern about bias in SVSD schools?"

(Check back - this page will be updated as we get new comments from supporters.)

1

A student says:  I experience it almost daily in the classroom and it hinders my ability to learn as well as others. It is hard for me to want to learn under a teacher that I do not respect.

2

A student of Mount Si High School says:  It makes going to school less about learning and more about politics.

3

A student says:  I'm afraid that the bias of our teachers will bring more publicity to our school that already has enough problems.

4

A student of SMS says:  I want my high school expereance to be a safe positive learning expereance

5

A student of Mt. Si says:  My greatest concern is that the GSA makes school harder for gays. Using school for activism on this subject causes more bullying, not less. The GSA creates disorder and harsh feelings towards gays because it seems like all they do is complain. Most of us treat our fellow classmates equally and are offended when we are blamed for oppressing others. Things are out of hand at the high school and must be changed!

6

A student of Mount Si High School says:  I think that the teachers need to stop incorporating their views on politics into the classroom. I also believe that the GSA is involving students outside their club during the school day and that this isn't beneficial to the students.

7

A student of Snoqualmie Middle School says:  The bias at Mount Si High School is something that everyone should stand up against, whether they are in middle school or just an average member of the community. It disrupts the learning of the students and is not something that should be permitted by the school district. It is completely unacceptable.

A student of Mt. Si High School says:  I thought it was against some law that teachers aren't allowed to state their position on something unless personally asked by a student?!?! Just like a teacher isn't allowed to be involved with a christian book club... it has to be student initiated... shouldn't it be the same for gay/lesbian stuff?
9 A student of Mount Si High School says:  Im concerned with my teachers' liberalistic spews. When people comment on their views, they are immediately belittled. I'm tired of all of the drama of politics. Im also concerned with the School Board Proposals. In their latest plan, they cut classrooms, but maintained plans for sports facilitites. What is school about? Learning- not sports and personal opinion
10 A student of SMS says:  some teachers make fun of the Christian religion. It makes me feel bad. Especially when the Muslim religion we studied was made out to be better.
11 A student of MSHS says:  Teachers standing around like in their doorways watching kids in the halls pick on other kids - like are getting hit or purposely shoved - and not doing a THING about it! They just stand around watching.
12 A student of Mount Si says:  Ever since entering the school, my values and beliefs have been made fun of and belittled. I have been called intolerant and narrow minded. I have been labeled a 'fascist' and a 'fanatical' conservative. I have been told that members of my faith frequently 'do the good Christian thing and kill everybody.' The sad thing is that these have all been said by my teachers. I believe that when a student cannot express his or her opinion without these adverse effects then there is a problem.
13 A student of Mount Si High School says:  Day of Silence is hypocritical and a waste of time. I am sick of the GSA's methods and disgusted with the liberalistic preaching of my teachers. I feel outnumbered and hopeless in the sea of oblivious people. All of the bias that takes take place at Mount Si doesn't belong there.
14 A student of Mount Si High School says:  My greatest concern is that the opinions of over zealous supporters of their cause are clouding not only their minds, but the minds of others
15 A student of Mount Si High School says:  It is disrupting our learning environment, and people [all types] are getting hurt and bullied. Teachers are voicing their opions on politics, religion, sexual orientation and much other things without showing the other side. Also, the GSA is allowed to take a stand, and the staff is fine with that, but when we try to take a stand opposing their stand they suddenly freak out.

Mount Si is just messed up for sure right now. Learning environments are supposed to be safe. Yeah right. Its not safe for anyone. People who take a stand about anything are smacked in the face. Yeah we need to learn what its like in the real world but the high school definitely needs to stop pushing their agenda and their personal views down our throats. Its not helping anything or anyone.
